So I got myself a calendar, one of those one-a-day jobbies, where you peel a page off each day to reveal, in this case, a new quote! These are dubbed “The smartest things ever said.” Not sure how smart they are, but some are quite comical!!
In the future, I will attempt to post 1 a day. Today I will catch up on the last week.
Sunday, January 1-New Year’s Day-Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. Mark Twain (I had to explain this one to my 11 year old.)
Monday, January 2-Nothing, of course, begins at the time you think it did. Lillian Hellman (Brilliant of course as the beginning is a thought which is almost never recorded.)
Tuesday, January 3-The future is always beginning now. Mark Strand (A good thing to keep in mind.)
Wednesday, January 4-It is an impressively arrogant move to conclude that just because you don’t like something, it is empirically not good. I don’t like Chinese food, but I don’t write articles trying to prove it doesn’t exist. Tina Fey (Not sure how smart this one is, but pretty funny!)
Thursday, January 5-I believe in looking reality straight in the eye and denying it. Garrison Keillor (This is great cause we’re not talking about ignoring reality, we’re talking about taking ownership!)
Friday, January 6-Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper. Down deep, the fish are more powerful and more pure. They’re huge and abstract. And they’re very beautiful. David Lynch (This one is pretty obvious but great nonetheless!)
Saturday, January 7-I have complete faith in the continued absurdity of whatever’s going on. Jon Stewart (Definitely apropos! And funny!!)
I’m noticing there have already been a couple comedians. I’m going to like this calendar!!!
